15. Tiles & Notifications
So far we’ve been building Win8 bits and pieces (can’t quite call them “applications”) that are more or less independent of the Windows 8 operating system. Yes, of course, they run on Windows, and the WinRT components we’ve been using are native to that platform, but we haven’t really interacted with the operating system, and the deep integration between Windows 8 and the Win8 App UI is one of the things that sets it apart from other XAML platforms. We’ll begin in this chapter with the first thing your user will see about your application: the tile that represents it on the Windows 8 Start Screen.
