Does Anybody but Me Care About Me?
THIS THIRD CAUSE OF ANXIETY IS PERHAPS more subtle than the other two, but no less insidious. What constitutes insignificance within an organization? Is it the lack of consistent encouragement from a boss? Is it a more general sense of being an easily replaced part? Is it a belief that your contributions are relatively inconsequential?
The answer is all of the above, and more. High-need-for-achievement professionals want to believe that their efforts matter, that other people value their work.
