The term scale or scaling means to increase or reduce the size of a pattern or shape. The goal of this step is to determine how big you want the finished piece to be and, therefore, how many times you will need to multiply the sculpted positive to reach the desired size.

It is sometimes possible to make the positive sculpt the same size as the finished piece.
