INTRODUCTION

Since their introduction as a clinical tool, genograms have come a long way. However, no one text has consolidated the literature on the use of genograms in clinical practice. Focused Genograms: Intergenerational Assessment of Individuals, Couples, and Families updates, expands the use of genograms for clinicians, supervisors, and academicians and describes the practical use of Focused Genograms. Based on extensive clinical practice, teaching, supervising, and research, the authors have developed a method that organizes and structures the pedigree genogram, the “Family Map,” and the “Time Line.”
