Abstract

Fog computing (FC) is a modern computing approach that provides latency-aware and highly scalable services to geographically dispersed end-users. Consequently, it significantly reduces the overhead of processing and transmission of large-scale data, which is comparatively more secure than cloud computing (CC), as the information is stored and evaluated on fog nodes since it locates close to these devices. As revealed by the recent literature fog computing is affected by various security and privacy challenges. Blockchain (BC) technology has emerged in recent years as one of the surprising, inventive, and rapidly growing developments in all fields that provide an open platform with an emphasis on data security and privacy. On the other hand, the consensus process in blockchain technology provides a notable assurance of data protection and integrity, which has led to its widespread adoption in a diverse range of applications, benefiting from its inherent features such as security, privacy, distributed trust management, and reliability. Notably, blockchain security for fog computing has recently gained considerable popularity across various domains. This chapter describes blockchain security for fog computing that supports reliable fog services for secure data transactions, trustless, and identity ...
