Innocent Bystanders

Innocent bystanders are the largest group in the victim category because everyone is a potential innocent bystander. By definition, a bystander is someone who’s present when something happens, who sees an event but does not take part in it. For purposes of the Fool Me Once archetypes, bystanders are present when fraud happens but don’t necessarily realize that a fraud is taking place. They’re just living their daily lives, placing trust in their elected officials, airplane and car manufacturers, farmers who sell them food, and so on. Innocent bystanders are clueless to the potential danger lurking around them. They’re us.
