Nurture Nonprofit Networks
The Exploratorium isn’t anything like an old-fashioned science museum full of static, dusty exhibits. When we first visited for our research, the Exploratorium was housed in a cavernous warehouse in San Francisco’s northernmost Marina District. Inside the eclectic space are interactive exhibits of gyrating titanium wheels, levitating beach balls, pulsing neon lights, and even a Tactile Dome that simulates how a blind person experiences the world. The Exploratorium has an atmosphere of calculated chaos. The place is teeming with children and their parents, and everyone is pulling ropes and pushing buttons with obvious delight.1
