Thriving in Tumultuous Times
The global financial crisis and Great Recession have dramatically influenced the state of the world and the stability of the nonprofit sector, as we noted in the new Introduction. So as we prepared to research and write this updated edition of Forces for Good, we wanted to know how the twelve high-impact nonprofits we originally featured had fared during these tumultuous times. After all, the management genre is rife with books highlighting the best practices of particular companies at a moment in time, only to see a few of those firms fail mere years later. Such is the dynamic nature of commercial markets—reflecting Schumpeter’s cycle of creative destruction.
