Leaders are expected to lead under a variety of conditions, from boom to bust. However, it takes a special type of leader, and cast of characters, to produce innovative new products and services. Steve Jobs of Apple Computer had a track record of identifying the talent to produce game-­changing products and services: the Macintosh, iTunes, the iPod, the iPhone, and the iPad. He led the effort, but it was the designers and engineers, who built these devices. We are interested in how the latter think.
