6: Fractional calculus perspective on noise removal in images
Abstract
The application of fractional calculus has led to the development of novel denoising techniques for images. These methods, which utilize fractional derivative and integral operators, have demonstrated enhanced performance compared to traditional approaches based on integer-order calculus. This chapter explores the use of fractional calculus in noise removal in images, presenting various approaches for Gaussian noise and salt-and-pepper noise. The chapter begins with an overview of fractional denoising masks for Gaussian noise, discussing mathematical prerequisites and discretizations for some of the integral operators. Numerical simulations are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness ...
