4 ANTICIPATING TOMORROW:TECHNOLOGY AND THE FUTURE

As Australia—like most of the developed world—considers its economic malaise, politicians, economists and business people seek the answer to how can Australia dig itself out of the recessionary hole? But first we need to look at what sort of hole we have fallen into:
- Are we in a hole or are we really at a realistic plateau which reflects a low level of aspiration, a lack of will, an immaturity or incompetence inherent in our society and its structures?
- Is the hole simply a cyclical trough, a hiccup in our economic expansion, which will disappear as a matter of course in the not too distant future?
- Or, do we expect that by applying the policies of the past, we will somehow repeat ...
