Information, as such, is a slippery concept. The term is used to cover so much. Data, copy, intelligence and news—with other specialised connotations—are generally used in narrower senses than the all embracing distinctive term, ‘information’. Information can be represented in many different forms and the gathering, evaluating, storing and transmission of information content can involve a wide range of mediating processes.
