A critical but often overlooked area of franchising management is the administration of the transfer and renewal process. Although the transfer of a franchise is a very different and usually more complex transaction than the renewal of a franchise, both situations highlight an important aspect of the relationship between franchisor and franchisee: Franchises are awarded, not sold.
