Exploring the Gnome and X-Windows Applets

If you installed the recommended packages in Chapter 2, “Installing FreeBSD,” you have access to several Gnome and X-Windows applets. These applets are similar to the applets in Microsoft Windows or Macintosh. The applets (and other programs in Gnome) can be accessed in one of three ways:

  • Click the Gnome footprint, and select Programs.
  • Click the Programs entry in the top panel.
  • Middle-click on the desktop, and select Programs from the pop-up menu.

Some of the X-Windows applets may not yet be available in the Gnome menus. If this is the case, you can access them by clicking on the Gnome footprint, selecting Run, entering the name of the program listed in the following sections in the dialog box, ...
