Alternative Installation Methods
If you can’t or (for whatever reason) don’t want to install FreeBSD from the DVD included with this book, you have several other options available. These include network installs with FTP or NFS. Installation over the network is especially convenient when you are in a location with a lot of bandwidth and don’t have the DVD handy, or if the machine doesn’t have a working DVD drive or a BIOS that can boot from it. For many servers or workstations in enterprise environments, installing from a network source is the quickest and most efficient way to get FreeBSD installed.
