Analytics and Freemium Products

This chapter, “Analytics and Freemium Products,” defines the concept of analy-tics introduced in the previous chapter and presents a model for capturing, storing, and visualizing data for the purposes of driving the design of freemium products with insight, not intuition. Freemium products require constant adaptation to user preferences and tastes in order to generate revenue from the small minority of users who are willing to pay for them; as a result, an “analytics stack” (which consists of both technical infrastructure and the elements of the analytics techno- logy stack that depict and report on data) is needed to properly instrument data from the product and deliver it to product teams.
