Zero Latency Organization

3.1. From Big Data to Smart Data for a zero latency organization

A zero latency organization is best described as an organization whose temporality of activity monitoring, via the implementation of its decisions (human actions or software agents), is directly linked to the temporality of its business processes in order to respond as fast as possible to changes in context (based on the idea that it is necessary to know to be able to decide, and to decide to be able to act).

3.2. Three types of latency

3.2.1. Latency linked to data

Latency linked to data could be deemed “technical” as it is directly linked to the architecture and the urbanization of the information system (this book will not develop these concepts, but they widely represent the “technical” aspects of the information system and the communication modalities between its components). The objective is to “capture” transaction data, the moment it is generated without disturbing the transaction cycle (response time). This type of information system architecture is said to be event-driven (event-driven architecture (EDA)). Once the data has been captured, it must be urbanized: the data is processed (“mapped”, filtered, etc.) such that it can be used as input for analytical processing. Implementing an EDA architecture can be costly and very intrusive for solutions that are already in place. The most pragmatic approach is to see what can be realized (using the current Information System) in terms ...
