What is a gesture? More importantly, why do gestures matter when designing user experience for mobile apps? We’ve talked about designing the user interface, looked at various iOS navigation metaphors, detailed the abundance of user interface elements at your disposal, and tied it all together with beautiful animations. But in the end, it all circles back to human interaction; the biggest difference between apps for iOS devices and apps for web pages or desktop computers boils down to gestures—how a user interacts with iOS apps and iOS hardware (recall our HID discussion in Chapter 3, Physical Hardware).
