Ethics is an important topic in finance and this text addresses ethical issues in several ways. In Chapter 1, we introduce a framework for consideration of ethical issues in corporate finance. Many ethical issues can be analyzed in the context of informational asymmetry between parties to a transaction, conflicts of interest, breaches of confidentiality, and breaches of fiduciary duty (principal-agent relationships); we highlight examples of such analyses throughout the text.
