The Main Types of Networks
A security professional must learn a lot about networking because a good working knowledge about networks and how to secure them is crucial to protecting an organization from network failure or data breach. Many of the devices used in the security field protect networks, and those that do not often rely on them to function. In this section, you will examine the two main types of networks—wide area networks (WANs) and LANs—and explore their function as well as some of the ways to connect a LAN to a WAN.
