Chapter 6. Overview and Channel Structure of LTE

In Part I, we discussed the inherent challenges and associated technical solutions in designing a broadband wireless network. From here onward, we describe the technical details of the LTE specifications. As a starting point, in this chapter we provide an overview of the LTE radio interface. The 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) defines a separable network structure, that is, it divides the whole network into a radio access network (RAN) and a core network (CN), which makes it feasible to evolve each part independently.
