Three-Wave Mixing beyond the Small-Signal Limit

6.1Introduction

Our treatment of the coupled wave equations in Chapter 4 introduces the general characteristics of phase matching and tolerances. We derive these properties by making several assumptions. The two principal assumptions are monochromatic plane-wave interactions and the small-signal approximation where the inputs are negligibly affected by the nonlinear interaction. We return again to the coupled amplitude equations but with less restrictive assumptions regarding the changes in field amplitudes.
