Chapter 4

Customer-Centric View of Electricity Service

Eric G. Gimon    Energy Innovation LLC, San Francisco, CA, United States of America

Abstract

The chapter explores the nature of the services coming through the customer/grid interface from the point of view of the customer. It looks at what customers have traditionally gained from connecting to the grid, and how the value proposition offered by the grid has changed. It then looks at how to redeploy grid functionalities into services more directly aligned with the needs of empowered customers. Various pricing schemes are explored that might drive this alignment.
