Activities and ideas for verbal communication
Introduction
This chapter includes a selection of activities that encourage thinking skills and verbal communication. The intention is that the EAL pupil(s) will become more confident in speaking English if they have structured opportunities to practice, and so many of these ideas and activities are based on mixed-ability group work, talk partners and discussion.
Talk tokens
A simple idea that encourages reluctant speakers to speak more and pupils who take over an activity to speak less, thereby allowing everyone – no matter what their level of English – to communicate fairly.
