Activities and ideas for written communication

Introduction

This chapter has lots of activities that stimulate reading and writing. The activities can be adapted for any Key Stage and encourage confidence in writing English through modelling, scaffolded approaches to teaching and repetition. The ideas encourage ‘talking for writing’ techniques.

Often when you place pupils in groups there is a dominant child who monopolises the discussion and task. On such occasions the EAL pupil(s) can be left doing nothing and not learning. This simple idea enables the EAL pupil(s) to have a full role in the activity.
