Pattern construction

K. Kennedy     RMIT University, Melbourne, VIC, Australia

Abstract

This chapter aims to identify components of pattern construction and how these elements contribute to the technical design process within the complexity and diversity of the global supply chain model. Three domain categories—the body, material and garment—are defined to create typological classification of the variable data inputs that contribute to the pattern construction process according to a variety of methods. These domains serve to establish a methodological framework for a variety of approaches to the art and craft of patternmaking from both a traditional and a contemporary practice via both manual and computer-aided design modes.
