DEUTERIUM CHLORIDE

CONTENTS

Deuterium chloride (DCl) has properties very similar to hydrogen chloride (HCl) as expected. The attachment rate constant is 1.2 × 10−16 m3/s (Christophorou et al., 1968). The attachment cross sections are very similar to those for HBr, the ion formed being Br due to dissociative attachment. Table 15.1 shows the electron attachment data for DCl and HCl. Table 15.2 and Figure 15.1 show the attachment cross sections for DCl. The step-like structure in the attachment cross section curve is attributed to the vibrational modes ν = 4 to 6 (Abouaf and Tillet-Billy, 1977). The energy for vibrational excitation of DCl molecule is 266 meV.
