DICHLOROMETHANE AND DIFLUOROMETHANE

Dichloromethane (CH2Cl2) and difluoromethane (CH2F2) are molecules in which two hydrogen atoms of methane are substituted by chlorine and fluorine atoms, respectively. The substitution renders both the molecules polar and electron-attaching. They have 42 and 26 electrons, respectively. Selected properties of the molecules are shown in Table 58.1.
