ANEUPLOIDIES AND ADVANCED MATERNAL AGE

Aneuploidy is a numerical chromosomal abnormality that occurs as a consequence of non-disjunction. Non-disjunction is the failure of chromosome pairs to segregate properly during meiosis. Non-disjunction can occur during meiosis I or meiosis II or mitosis, and this results in imbalance in the diploid state of the cell. Such a cell is called an aneuploid cell.
