The Gross out
What does it look like?
It’s any shot that uses the gross-out factor within the context of a shot or sequence. It’s usually bodily fluids, insects, or a disgusting act of some kind that is shot in a way to completely gross out the audience.
How’s it done?
This type of shot is usually done as practical makeup FX on the set, but it can also be enhanced as CGI.
When should I use it?
Use this shot during moments when you want to make your audience or characters squirm. As a rule of thumb, the more extreme the better the result.
