The Floating Camera

What does it look like?

It’s a shot that seems to float from one side of the table to the other during a conversation. Each turn of the camera favors who is talking at the time.

How’s it done?

This shot is done with a dolly or Steadicam rig. It needs to be timed with the actors’ dialogue for maximum effect.

When should I use it?

Use it for style and to keep a normally boring conversation at a table more dynamic. It also redirects the audience’s attention to each individual and keeps the dialogue more intimate.
