Standard: A standard is an agreed-upon set of principles and methods to achieve a technical task. The MPEG set of standards is an example.
MPEG: The Motion Picture Experts Group (MPEG) is a body of engineers and organizations that define the MPEG audio and video technical standards.
Open source: The open source philosophy and practice of software engineering permits anyone using a piece of software to view and modify the source code, thus revealing and possibly changing the software’s methods. In the proprietary model, usually practiced by commercial enterprises, viewing and modifying the source code violates the software’s license.
