In this chapter, I illustrate the various methods you can use to brand yourself as an IT expert. It's not quite enough to just have a Twitter or Facebook account. You must also express your expertise in various public outlets or, even better, publish a blog with helpful information. I also cover the benefits of using LinkedIn and various other services to get your name in cyberspace.
The Internet is no longer some kind of fad. It hasn't been for a number of years now. The Internet has become a critical component to daily communicating, media consuming, and shopping, researching, and entertaining.
For some reason that is unclear, people like to set up blogs and express themselves on the Internet. I'm not trying to suggest that setting up a blog isn't a good thing; it's just an interesting phenomenon. It's likely due to the fact that, before the Internet, most people didn't have a public voice. So, it's not that the reasons are unclear, but more to the point, manifold. Some people like to complain about stuff, others prefer to share their talents or with fellow practitioners of their profession, and the reasons beyond that are unlimited.
