DENISE WAS ON her way to the gym after an uplifting end to the week. It had been a gray and rainy January day and, as the evening grew colder, the raindrops became heavier, and the rain slowly transforming into slushy snowflakes. Denise flipped her windshield wipers up a level. Traffic was moving slowly. The heat was running full blast in her moss-green Mazda. She loved this sporty convertible, which she had been driving for several years, but it wasn’t great in snow. As usual, Denise found herself thinking about her workweek.
