16. Brazil
Brazil is the fifth-largest country in the world in both area and population. With nearly 76 million Brazilians online, Brazil is also the fifth-biggest country in Internet usage and growing fast. According to the International Telecommunication Union, nearly 38 percent of the nation’s population was online in 2010. A June 2010 study by comScore found that nearly 73 million of about 200 million Brazilians use the Internet. This is up from about 5 million users in the year 2000. That’s a growth rate of 1,360 percent in the decade.
Brazilians also spend a good deal of time online—about 1,500 minutes per month, which is consistent with the average online time in Britain. While online, the average Brazilian looks at about 2,500 pages. ...
