As I sit and listen to the seemingly interminable honks of the cars and auto-rickshaws outside of my hotel room in Kottayam, India, I cannot help but reflect on how small the world has become in the past few decades. You cannot go anywhere in India without seeing signs of the Western world in the form of cars, electronics, billboard advertisements, and the like. Even in the small town of Thekkady, nestled high in the Western Ghats mountain range, I could purchase Lay’s potato chips or Aquafina water if I desired.
