Revisiting the Migration Debate: Congress, Opposition and Reality

The history of the world is one of human migration from one land to another, one geographical region to another, from one nation to another. At times, this movement of people has been regulated. Borders are often unrecognized as such by people living on frontiers, as evidenced by the fact that travel and trade has continued over many centuries despite official rules and regulations. This is especially true of the 4,000 kilometer boundary between India and Bangladesh, which sprawls over paddy fields, rivers and plains. A cursory look at the map and at Bangladesh's statistics will help assess conditions behind this situation.
