The Locals Visit the Global

This chapter examines the notions of the ‘local’ that seem to be posited against the processes of globalization and argues that many ‘globalizations’ and many ‘locals’ are being created, which are an integral part of the phenomenon of globalization. There are many aspects to the local/global relationship, and this chapter will try to suggest that the territorial location of the consumer of culture, as well as her/his class and gender positions will tend to determine the particular cultural manifestations of the local.
