Digital Selective Calling (DSC)

 

DSC is a method of automatically alerting ship or shore stations, individually or collectively, by dialling a 9-digit numerical code (MMSI station ID – see para 2.2) into the DSC controller, which is permanently connected to the ship's main transceiver. The DSC controller enables digitally coded signals to be transmitted on specific frequencies. A special keypad allows for automatic transmission of Distress Alert and other keypads give access to selections from various menus.

CALL FORMAT SPECIFIER

This enables selection of Call Type, Address, Priority, etc, by use of keypads, so that different types of call may be programmed into the Controller prior to transmission.
