GMDSS

GMDSS is an enhanced Search And Rescue (SAR) system using automation and advanced satellite and HF/MF/VHF radio communication technology.

The System is a combination of:-

Satellite communications;

MF/HF/VHF Radiotelephony;

Radiotelex (Direct Printing Telegraphy);

Survival Craft Radar Transponders (SARTs);

Satellite EPIRBs;

Data transmission; and

Digital Selective Calling (DSC).

Some companies are manufacturing the full range of GMDSS equipment to be accessed from one keyboard and one VDU (screen).

GMDSS provides for the rapid alerting of SAR authorities and vessels and the efficient deployment of coordinated SAR services.
