B.1 Introduction
Once upon a time “before the cloud,” many of us delivered infrastructure and platform services inside a mostly static data center. Most of the architecture and implementation work we did was based on first doing research, then a proof of concept and vendor selection. In most cases the real implementation work never got started till “the box” arrived and was racked and stacked. Quite the contrast to today where endless infrastructure is an API call and credit card away from our fingertips.
