Chapter 2: Using Remote Data in Your Mapplets
You now have Mapplet basics down. In the previous chapter, you learned how to plot markers on a map using static content, or content that never changes. It is now time to make your application more interactive by using dynamic data, or data that is retrieved from remote servers.
Mapping data sets that don't often change (if ever), such as a chain store's locations or a series of historical buildings, may not require dynamic retrieval. However, when you start to map information that changes often, such as news or event data (like concerts), you'll need to periodically retrieve the data to refresh your application.
