As I write this edition of the book, The Great Shutdown is slowly fading from our collective memory. I speak, of course, of the entire world coming to a virtual halt to stop — or at least slow down — the spread of the novel coronavirus that emerged in late 2019. Literally overnight, those of us who were used to spending our working days in bustling offices located in faraway skyscrapers were now forced to stay home, quarantined from our colleagues and bosses. Some of us have now returned to those skyscrapers, but for many people, one of the ongoing changes brought about by The Great Shutdown is the opportunity to still work at home, either part-time or full-time.
