Chapter One: Introduction

Abstract

This chapter includes lucid discussions of basic concepts, provides an overview of the problems, and presents outlines of the solutions. This book lies at the crossroads of multimedia and graph theory. We show in the chapters to follow, how some critical problems in the field of multimedia, can be tackled with efficacy by primarily using graph-based approaches. A video can be represented as a graph in various forms, and the problems in video can be modeled as graph problems. In addition to graph-theoretic approaches, we explore techniques from constrained optimization, game theory, and deep learning for developing comprehensive solutions.
