The bossiest of bad bossy bosses get a negative rap in popular culture.

This especially applies to those real-life hard-to-please business tycoons on the so-called reality television show The Apprentice – played on the small screen by Donald Trump and Alan Sugar – who spend their time in the United States and the United Kingdom respectively asking contestants why their money-making plans went wrong before telling them: “You're fired!”

It similarly applies to the outrageously demanding Miranda Priestly – played on the big screen by Meryl Streep in The Devil Wears Prada – and supposedly modelled on a real-life fashion boss.

Scarier still, but in a different way, is the boss in the television show The Office ...
