Abstract
This chapter provides an introductory discussion of two key emerging research topics. The first is “energy harvesting” or “energy scavenging,” which deals with the technology that aims to take advantage of various ambient power sources. The second is the concept of the “Internet of Things” (IoT), which is a recently coined term used to describe a series of technologies that enable machine-to-machine communication and machine-to-human interaction via Internet protocols.
