The idea of the value stream is not a new concept, nor is it a complicated one. However, in order to understand a green value stream (GVS), you need a basic understanding of a traditional value stream, an idea that comes from lean manufacturing.

So what is a value stream? A value stream is the flow of all the activities that your organization performs in order to provide a product or service to your customer, regardless of whether the activities are considered value-adding or non-value-adding. This includes the production activities required to change the form and function of something into a usable product or service.
