Selecting the Right Development Tools
After you have reviewed all the basics of tools and methods, you can select at least one replacement system. Fortunately, in many small companies, the development manager can direct the choice of development tools. Having this choice gives you the flexibility to change and reconfigure systems as your needs change. This is not necessarily the case in large companies.
Managers in startup companies often base their tool selection on two criteria: familiarity and price (preferably, free). A thoughtful choice, however, will prevent future problems when the company grows and the product takes off.
