15 Math Extensions with AMS-LATEX

The American Mathematical Society, AMS, has supported the development and usage of TEX since its first release. Shortly after TEX 82 became available, the AMS produced a macro package for generating a special format amstex, described in The Joy of TEX by Spivak (1990). The macros in this AMS-TEX complement the mathematical typesetting features of Plain TEX by adding additional ones and simplifying others.

However, AMS-TEX is not a documentation preparation system like LATEX, describing the logical layout of a document by means of markup commands, but rather is simply an extension to Plain TEX.
