Chapter 4

Filling the toolbox

Abstract

This chapter starts by showing how a simple windowing environment can be added to the base operating system developed in the previous chapter. The remainder of the chapter focuses on how to add hacking tools to the basic operating system. Leveraging repositories is the easiest way to install packages. Many packages that are not in repositories are available as Debian packages. In some cases, tools must be built from source. Several methods of building from source are discussed in detail. The chapter concludes with an overview of a starter set of tools for our hacking Linux distribution.
